Although Chinese is an ethnicity of cultural diversity, Chinese culture itself is subject to many sub cultures and languages, and different acculturation exposures as Chinese people migrate and settle in different parts of the world. Like most contemporary citizens of countries everywhere, many are now getting older and cancer does not discriminate and claims as many lives as other people from non-Chinese backgrounds.
Understanding Chinese consumers’ cancer journey experiences, especially during the last stage, can give valuable insights to understand universal and cultural drivers that can give or threaten the quality of life during the last rite.
This presentation will share a carer’s story of her recall of her elderly Chinese father’s spiritual passage during the last end of life stage of his cancer journey, and some journey insights of two other female Chinese patients they befriended. This story provides insight into understanding what palliative care and dying means to different Chinese people and how they cope during the last stage of their cancer journeys.
